Traditional country living.

Newbridge Farm Cottages provide an ideal retreat for couples and families looking for the peace and tranquility of traditional country living.

Local activities

The self-catering holiday cottages at Newbridge Farm are an ideal base for guests enjoying a self-catering holiday to explore the area and enjoy outdoor activities. Set in Meifod, Powys, the cottages are nestled in the heart of the scenic Vyrnwy Valley, and so boast spectacular views of the stunning Welsh countryside as well as fantastic fishing opportunities in the rivers Vyrnwy and Banwy.

The cottages are ideally situated for walkers who want to walk the famous Glyndwr Way or the Ann Griffiths Walk, named after the renowned Welsh hymn writer. John and Eirian, who own the cottages, both enjoy walking, so they can offer advice on walking routes of varying lengths and difficulties, from short, scenic, relaxing walks, to longer and more challenging walks for experienced walkers.

The holiday cottages are set in the picturesque village of Meifod, so they combine spectacular views with the convenience of a small, rural village. Meifod has a country pub, The King’s Head, and a local shop and Post Office. It is also within easy reach of nearby villages Pontrobert and Dolanog, as well as market towns Newtown and Welshpool, which boasts the impressive Powis Castle, a medieval property with gardens preserved by the National Trust.

The self-catering cottages are an ideal choice for those keen on fishing and bird watching. The Rivers Vyrnwy and Banwy, which run through the site, are renowned for their brilliant fishing. The site is also home to several species of bird, including kingfishers, swans and swallows, making for a fantastic, relaxing fishing experience.

Lake Vyrnwy is just minutes away, offering visitors fantastic walks in magnificent surroundings. Keen bird watchers can spot dozens of bird species in the RSPB reserve, and those wanting to be active and fill their lungs with the fresh Welsh country air can cycle or boat on the lake.

Other activities available in the local area include:

  • Clay pigeon shooting
  • Coarse fishing on a stream fed lake
  • Laser shooting
  • Quad biking
  • Golf
  • Pony trekking
  • Hard court tennis
  • Hawking
  • Fishing ponds
  • River fishing in the rivers Vyrnwy and Banwy

John has lived at Newbridge all his life, and wife Eirian for 25 years, so the couple have a wealth of local knowledge, and can offer guests advice and information on things to do, places to visit and eating out. The holiday cottages’ beautiful but conveniently-situated location paired with the couple’s friendly, welcoming approach makes the holiday cottages an ideal self-catering accommodation choice for anyone wishing to enjoy a great self-catering holiday in beautiful mid Wales.
